Our Story
The truth is, most people look at a pile of wood and see "scraps." I looked at it and saw a massive failure of imagination.
It was 2025. I was standing in my father’s workshop, Saks Corner, surrounded by the smell of sawdust and the hammering of machinery. But something kept bothering me. Everywhere I looked, there were piles of wood—beautiful, high-grade Oak, Iroko, Walnut, and Sapele—stacked almost to the ceiling.
Thousands of Rands worth of material, just sitting there, waiting to be dumped. Why? Because they were too small for a bespoke table or a mid-century sideboard.
That’s the moment Little Wood was born.
I realised the furniture industry has a friction problem. We’ve been conditioned to think that bigger is better and that "offcuts" are waste. But at Little Wood, we believe quality doesn't have an expiration date and that craftsmanship isn't measured by the dimensions of the timber, but by the integrity of the finish.
Our mission is simple: More Wood, Less Waste. We’re starting here at Saks Corner, but our vision extends far beyond our own walls. We’re partnering with furniture brands across Cape Town to rescue their waste and transform it into something meaningful.
I won't lie—this is the hard way to do things.
Processing offcuts is tedious. It’s a manual puzzle that requires us to be more creative and more disciplined than if we just bought raw timber. But that is our competitive advantage. By choosing the "hard" path, we’re forced to think harder and craft better.
The Dream: To become South Africa’s leading wooden homeware brand, placing at least one piece of Little Wood in every home in the country.
Every item is handcrafted in-house with an obsession for detail. We aren't just making homeware; we’re making sure that nothing beautiful ever goes to waste again.
Welcome to the Little Wood family.
